Ramble on

I haven't gotten out of the house much lately. Partly because the weather has been CRAP, and partly because we've got a cute little pup that needs constant attention. Hence, not much to blog about. I like that word....hence.

I so hope that the weather clears up soon. Like tomorrow. I desperately need to see sunshine. "IIIIIIIIIIIIII wanna soak up the suuuuuuuuuuun"....who sings that? I know, just seeing if you do. Ever since I sprained my ankle 3 weeks ago, it's done nothing but rain. UGH. It's like being in Denmark all over again.

I'm making fish for dinner tonight. AND....I forgot to let my hubs know. Muahahahaha!! Why is that funny? Because I think he cringes every time I mention having fish. Now he won't have a chance to stuff himself silly for lunch. He's picky when it comes to fish. And I don't cook it like his mamma. I think I can hold my own though. I can cook quite well actually. I got that passion from my dad. I sure do miss his cooking. Except for the orange jello-y salad with the green olives. I don't know what that was, so I'll just call it.....bad. He loved it though, made it all the time. And I never wanted to hurt his feelings so I always ate it with gusto, and even forced down seconds in sometimes. That's the kind of considerate daughter I am.

I'm rambling. I'm bored. God help me. I'm actually looking forward to the girls coming home from school. I mean, I love them but they fight and whine and well, you know how kids are. It's just so peaceful when they are at school. But this week, with a new puppy in the house, it's been like having a newborn. It's exhausting. And I just can't wait for someone else to be here to entertain it. And make sure it doesn't poop all over everything. We should have had a baby. Sure, they are hard work too but they wear diapers so they've got that going for them. At least you can control where the poop is going to end up.

My little fluffer puppers. I love her =)

Baby Girl

I have some exciting news to share! We have a new addition to the family. It's a beautiful little girl and we have named her Lizzy. She has gorgeous dark eyes and soft black and white hair. We brought her home with us on Sunday. Here is a picture of our new baby:

A Newfoundland puppy. Doesn't she just melt your heart?

Sugar pact: part 2

Well, so far we are doing AWESOME with our no sugar pact. It's been almost a week and Andreas and I are going strong. I have to give him lots of credit because it sounds as though his coworkers are having WAY too much fun trying to get him to cave. Play nice, boys!

I'm proud of him. If he can hang on for one more week it'll be smooth sailing. I've read that it only takes about 2 weeks for the craving to be nothing more than a memory. I'm not sure if you have to cut out ALL forms of sugar or just the candy and junk you eat in addition to the sugar added to food like bread, condiments, canned goods, etc. It would be near impossible to cut it out of your diet, unless you were very happy with eating 100% RAW. And I'm guessing that's a tough change to make, especially when not everyone else you live with is doing it with you.

The kids are doing good too, although the mom of one of Eden's friends sent home a container of cupcakes with her after a play date, so they each had one. But, moderation is all I'm concerned with. And that was their one for the week.

And on a side note...

Have a safe and happy Mother's Day weekend everyone. Hug and kiss and love your moms like there is no tomorrow. Appreciate them and make sure they know how special they are. Never take a moment with them for granted. My hearts go out to my two dear friends this Mother's Day, who lost their mom on Monday. I hope they can find comfort in the difficult days ahead.

I Want Candy

Our candy jar is officially empty. I didn't think I'd ever see the bottom of that thing again. After Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, St. Paddys, and Easter....we had enough to put us all into a sugar induced coma every hour, on the hour, for months.

So this past weekend my family and I made a pact. A no sweets pact. We wrote it up, and each one of us signed it. It's hanging on our fridge. Seriously. It was decided that we indulge a little too frequently so from now on, we are going to try to only eat a sweet treat once a week.

We'll see how it goes. But you might want to check in on us within the next couple of days. Who knows what's going to go down when the sugar cravings kick in. When Andreas rips apart the cupboards and breaks all the dishes in his ravenous sugar addicted meltdown, searching for any signs of chocolate. Or when Emma discovers that the largest of her daily consumed food groups has just been taken away, cold turkey. What will Eden fill up on when, after a half an hour of arranging her dinner around her plate to make it look as though some of it has actually been eaten, there is no "back up" food (aka....candy)? Will they even attempt to eat their dinner without the sweet pot-o-gold waiting for them as a reward to a clean plate? Will chores get done? Will we tear each other to shreds over a stray chocolate chip found hidden in the back of the baking cupboard?

Only time will tell.....

Who's gonna be the one to cave first? My money is on Andreas. Stay tuned for utter and inevitable failure.

I have an idea....

....and it's brilliant!

Keep at bottle of "All Better" in your fridge so when your kids get hurt, you just take out the bottle, feed them a spoonful and voila!

The bottle could contain anything, as long as it tastes good to your child. Decorate the outside of the bottle or jar to make it look legit. Don't forget to mention it's purpose..

Child: "OWIE! It hurts!" [wet snotty bawling]

Mom: "Wanna take some medies so you can feel all better?"

Child: "uh hu."

And presto, ALL BETTER!

I've discovered that with kids, it's all about the placebo. As long as they think it's working, it's working. My kids could probably break a bone but as long as we put a bandaid on it, they'd be fine. :)

I told you it was a fabulous idea!

Your welcome.
